Estates, factories, farms and food and beverage plants install FRP/GRP tanks to keep water flowing when the borehole, the mains or the power supply cannot be relied on. This page covers how we size, place, install and test a tank on your site. For the tank itself, its panels, resin and accessories, see FRP/GRP water tanks.

Sizing the tank for your site

To size a tank, multiply the number of people it serves by the litres each person uses per day, then by the days of storage the site needs. For planning we use 120 litres per person per day for urban supply, the planning value in the Nigerian Water Supply and Sanitation Policy. The days of storage are set at the site inspection, from how reliable your borehole, mains and power supply are.

Then check the space on your site against the footprint and height for each common capacity. Gross volume is the full internal volume of the tank.

Capacity Footprint (L × W) Height Gross volume
5,000 litres 2m × 2m 1.5m 6 m³
10,000 litres 3m × 2m 2.0m 12 m³
20,000 litres 4m × 3m 2.0m 24 m³
30,000 litres 4m × 4m 2.0m 32 m³
50,000 litres 6m × 4m 2.5m 60 m³
100,000 litres 8m × 5m 2.5m 100 m³

Cement base, metal stanchion or rooftop

Every tank we install stands above ground, on a cement base or raised on a metal stanchion. Tell us which you want when you ask for a quotation; the stanchion is built to whatever height the site needs, and that height is confirmed at the site inspection.

We can build the cement base or the stanchion as part of the job, or you can have it ready before we arrive to install. A tank can also go on a rooftop once a structural engineer has signed off the roof, and FortevaWorks arranges that sign-off.

How a tank job runs

  1. Site assessment and consultation. Free. We confirm the capacity, the stand and the route for the panels.
  2. Design. The tank is designed to your capacity and shape.
  3. Fabrication. The FRP/GRP panels are made by the manufacturer.
  4. Delivery. The panels are delivered to your site.
  5. Installation. The tank is assembled on the prepared base or stand.
  6. 24-hour fill test. The tank is filled to full capacity and left standing for 24 hours, then every panel joint and bolt is checked for leaks and the tank is checked to be level. You supply the water for the test.
  7. Final inspection and handover. We go through the result with you and hand the tank over.

Where we install

We work from Ogidan, Ajah, Lagos. The places we take jobs include:

  • Lagos: Lekki Free Trade Zone and the rest of the state.
  • Ogun: Agbara, Ota, Igbesa, Sagamu, Abeokuta.
  • South-South and South-East: Port Harcourt, Onne, Warri, Asaba, Enugu, Aba.
  • North: Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, Jos.

After handover

A maintenance visit drains the tank, cleans and disinfects the inside, and checks the bolts, joints and fittings for leaks. After the first 6 months of free servicing, a tank should be cleaned once a year.

What to send us for a quotation

  • The capacity you need in litres, from 5,000 up, or the number of people the tank serves so we can size it.
  • The site address and state.
  • Cement base, stanchion or rooftop, and whether you want us to build the base or stand.
  • Photos of the route from your gate to the spot where the tank will stand.

Send these through the form below, or request a quotation. Our FRP tank price guide explains what moves the cost of a tank job.

Water storage systems jobs we have worked on

  • Residential estate, Banana Island, Lagos

    12,000 L, handed over June 2026.

Test: The tank was filled to full capacity and left standing for 24 hours. Every panel joint and bolt was then checked for leaks, and the tank was checked to be level on its base.

Questions buyers ask

How long does it take to install a water storage tank?

The timeline is set in your quotation, after the free site inspection. We mobilise workers to site when we receive the first advance payment.

What does a water storage tank cost?

Capacity, tank height, site access, stand height and installation complexity move the cost of a tank job. Your figure comes in a detailed quotation after a free site inspection.

Who supplies the water for the 24-hour fill test?

You do. Before handover the tank is filled to full capacity, so the water needed equals the tank's capacity.

Do you maintain the tank after installation?

Yes. Every tank job includes 6 months of free routine servicing, cleaning and checks, and 6 months of free repair of defects in materials and workmanship, written into the contract. Damage from misuse, neglect or natural wear and tear is not covered.
