FortevaWorks has worked on more than 20 FRP/GRP tank installations for residential estates. This page sets out the tank itself: the panels, the sizes, where it stands, the resin, the accessories and the test before handover. For how we run water storage jobs across Nigeria, see our water storage systems service page.
What a sectional water tank is
A sectional water tank is assembled on site from flat panels bolted together, and the largest standard panel is 2m × 2m, so the tank arrives in pieces and is built where it will stand. FRP stands for fibre-reinforced plastic and GRP for glass-reinforced plastic; both name the same kind of tank. Our panels are SMC (sheet moulding compound) GRP, made by established manufacturers in China, South Korea and Malaysia.
The panels are joined with grade 304 or 316 stainless steel bolts and flanges. The tank is rectangular, on a square or oblong base.
Choosing capacity, height and configuration
The smallest tank we build holds 5,000 litres, and there is no fixed maximum: the tank is built up from panels to the capacity the site needs. Common configurations are 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, 30,000, 50,000 and 100,000 litres and above. Standard heights are 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 4.0 metres, and custom heights are available on request.
To work out the capacity your site needs, and to check the footprint of each common size, see sizing the tank on our installation page.
The spec table below lists the panel sizes, standard heights and common configurations, so you can check them against the space on your site before the inspection.
Where the tank stands: concrete pad, stanchion or rooftop
Every tank is installed above ground: base-mounted on a concrete pad, raised on a metal stanchion, or set on a rooftop with a structural engineer’s sign-off. Who builds the base or stand, and how the job runs, are set out on our water storage installation page.
Resin: food-grade on every tank
Every tank we supply is lined with food-grade resin, whatever water it stores. Food-grade resin is the kind used for drinking water, so the tank won’t taint what it stores.
The resin is written into the quotation, and the material in the quotation is the material we install. Sample FRP/GRP panels are available during the bid, so you can check the panel before you sign.
For a tank that stands in the open, a UV-resistant coating is available.
The accessories on the tank
Seven accessories come as standard on every tank:
- Ballcock assembly: the float valve that shuts the inlet when the tank is full.
- Inlet: where water from the borehole or mains enters.
- Outlet valve: where water leaves the tank for the building.
- Overflow: carries water away if the level rises above the set level.
- Vent: lets air in and out as the tank fills and empties.
- Manhole cover: the access opening on top, for inspection and cleaning.
- Ladder: for reaching the manhole cover.
GRP tank installation in Lagos: the 24-hour fill test
Once the panels are bolted together on the base, the tank is filled to full capacity and left standing for 24 hours. Every panel joint and bolt is then checked for leaks, and the tank is checked to be level on its base. We run this test with you before handover, on every tank.
You supply the water for the fill test.
Extending an existing tank
An existing tank can be extended rather than replaced. The additional cost is set after the site visit, once we have seen the tank and what it stands on. Bring the current capacity in litres and the capacity you need to the inspection.
What moves the cost
Capacity, tank height, site access, stand height and installation complexity are what change a tank job. The size of the project, the cost of materials and the location move the cost of every job we quote. Supply covers all the materials purchased for the job. Our FRP tank price guide explains each factor.
The figure for your tank comes from a free site inspection, followed by a detailed quotation, with a technical drawing if you want one. The timeline is set in the quotation, and we mobilise workers to the site when we receive the first advance payment.
FRP tanks in Lagos, Ogun and other states
We work from Ogidan, Ajah, Lagos. We take tank jobs across Lagos, including the Lekki Free Trade Zone; in Ogun, including Agbara, Ota, Igbesa, Sagamu and Abeokuta; and in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, Enugu and other states. The panels are delivered from our manufacturing partners to your site.
To book the free site inspection, request a quotation with your site address, the number of people the tank serves and whether it will sit on a pad, a stanchion or a rooftop.
